Product Description Meguiar's One Step Compound - ONE STEP COMPOUND
|
| Customer Reviews: Like Magic!!! August 21, 2009 E. Heintz I used this to rub out an older boat that I just purchased and it was like magic!! The Meguiar's One Step along with a Meguiar's W4000 wool cutting pad cut through severe oxidation and left a very smooth, glossy finish. It was worth every penny, and with 32 oz. of compound, I have enough to do my 20' bowrider many, many times over. Less than $60 for a Harbor Freight rotary buffer, compound, and a pad, and my boat looks almost new -- much cheaper than paying a detailer!!
Meguiars one-step marine compound September 4, 2009 D. D. squier (colorado) Worked well on my 5th wheel gelcoat siding. I did it by hand and it still worked well. I used a good wax after and time will tell how long the restored shine will last
Good Value January 5, 2010 SoFloBusinessMan For $19.00 Shipped this huge bottle is enough to compound a 30ft boat, hull, interior, t-top, console etc... You have to use a wool compounding pad with a rotary buffer. I spread the product on with an applicator, work in 2x2 ft sections and work it in until it disappears, then buff off with microfiber. Then I apply more polish or wax that you prefer,by hand and remove with a microfiber. I used nu-finish as its easy to apply and very affordable.
Worth the money and very effective April 5, 2010 J. Riquelme (Space Coast, Florida) OK, so you are new to boating and want to stick with a familiar name when it come to boat care products that you seem to trust when maintaining your cars. Well this will not only satisfy your comfort-food needs, but will do the job nicely. It's pricey, but what cleaning product for boating isn't, or anything for boats for that matter? I bought this after much research and price comparison. I reviewed inputs on Amazon from users, I also checked out other e-tailers' pages and their reviews. I even read all the marketing pitches from a dozen or so vendors. And this I did not only for Meguiars, but its competitors products as well. I finally settled on this one as my choice.
I am using this on a 1999 24' Sea Ray fixer upper that has seen better days. The craft has sat in saltwater its full life up until 2006. During those 7 years, the previous owner never waxed the boat. So as you can imagine, lava rocks had a better shine than this poor neglected craft. I applied it with a 7 inch wool cutting bonnet using a polisher at 2600 RPMs. The years came off right before my eyes. The bottle's applicator allowed me to meter the exact amount of product to apply so I can control the rate of oxidation removal and not go deeper than needed. The boat's before and after shot would make a marketer proud. It was inconceivable that I would get a mirror finish again, but this compound restored it to showroom. The compound removed saltwater eroded topcoat, oxidation tears from snaps and embedded grime in the clear coat.
So far, for a heavily oxidized hull and upper deck, I have used only 1/2 of the bottle. I predicted to buy a second bottle to finish, but the product does cut well without having to glob it on.
Pros:
Effectiveness
Easy to follow instructions for the novice
Familiar name
Good bottle design
Con's:
Pricey
Not easily found locally
The "wonder" product that I have been looking for.... April 28, 2010 ROICC (Orlando, FL) I have owned boats for over three years, and have been looking for that "wonder" product that looks great and doesn't take a lot of work. This product took a year of oxidation off of my boat with a few simple passes of a large polisher/buffer (note - using a random orbital polisher is not as effective with this product, and will triple your working time).
I bought the Makita Polisher/Sander to use with this product, and it worked flawlessly. After washing the boat, I applied some of the product directly to the lamb's wool bonnet. You can work on a 3' x 3' area at a time. I slowly spread the product on the boat using the polisher at a very low speed. Once the product was spread on the surface, I increased the speed of the polisher and watched the magic in action. This product actually compounds and polishes at the same time. The amount of time actually using the polisher in this work area is less than a minute. Clean off the excess with a microfiber rag, and then apply Meguiar's Flagship Marine Wax. That's It!
The finish on my boat looks brand new (it is a 2006). I would highly recommend this product for any lightly oxidized boat in need of its annual detailing. If you need something with more abrasive, use Meguiar's Compound, and then follow it with some polish, and then wax (sorry, three steps for badly oxidized or damaged finishes).
